THE AMAZING MR SMITH "No Messing About ( Just Guitar)"
Dave asked me to review the CD with the approach "You play the guitar a bit would you review this for me", well after listening I can truthfully say I play the guitar a BIT, whereas The Amazing Mr. Smith makes the strings bathe you in sound. I loved the experience!!!
The whole recording shows a true competence that many of us would love to emulate.
The CD contains a variety of material from the Folk, Jazz,Blues and Classical world with a number of tracks coming from the artists own imaginative pen. Familiar tracks include Star of County Down, Brigg Fair, Buddy Can You Spare a Dime, Barbara Allen, a ragtime rendering of Georgia on My Mind and a cheeky version of Any Umbrellas. In all the CD contains 15 tracks the odd one being quite intricately arranged and a little too complicated for the mere mortals amongst us to absorb, but most of the work is very acceptable whether you are a guitar aficionado or just enjoy well mastered music. There is a lovely arrangement of Sousas Semper Fidelis but for me the real gem amongst these jewels is the absolutely delightful Farewell to Stromness
If you love guitar work, need something to soothe the troubled mind or just to relax to, search out this offering. Im sure you will not be disappointed.
